Since the New Car Assessment Program has a limited budget, funding is concentrated on front and side impact crashes which are responsible for the highest percentage of deaths and serious injuries. A relatively small percentage of deaths or severe injuries are associated with rear impact crashes. So, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does not conduct any rear impact crash testing.; So, while only 5% of all fatal crashes involve a rear impact, rear crashes result in nearly 30% of all injury. The injuries are mostly minor, but with a lack of specific medical diagnosis of underlying injury, insurance claims for whiplash lead to high costs. In severe crashes, the loss of occupant retention from the seat can lead to impact with rear seat components.; This research mainly aims on simulating different rear-end impact scenarios and studying its effect on the neck injuries. The FE simulations are conducted using LS-Dyna. In this research, three automobile models are selected from the public domain of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. These are, Geo Metro (1994 Model), Ford Taurus (1993 Model), and Chevrolet Pickup (1994 Model). (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
