摘要

The purpose of this thesis is to increase the knowledge and understanding of complex Engineering-Construction projects using the System Dynamics and Critical Chain concepts. This improved understanding can act as the basis for improved project mental models, management heuristics and decisions and project performance. While no single model can provide a complete understanding of these kinds of projects, this thesis will contribute by identifying major feedback relationships and other dynamic features which significantly impact project performance. This will be done by explaining each major feedback loop of the project structure in detail and developing a model for each to show their potential impacts on project performance. The research work involves the use of dynamic computer simulation to model and investigate the impacts of major project parameters on project performance. Also the role of Critical Chain Project Management is explained within the traditional project management process to be used as a tool along with System Dynamics to avoid unexpected cost and schedule overruns.
