Kinetic art: Dadaist vs. constructivist influences.

摘要

This thesis examines the significance of the influence of Dadaism and Constructivism on the development of Kinetic art in the early 20th century using a comparative stylistic and thematic analyses of works by leading practitioners of the movements. Russian Constructivists Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Vladimir Tatlin-and Naum Gabo are discussed as well as Constructivist and Dada influenced artists Alexander Calder and Jean Tinguely.;The author argues that the development of the early 20th-century Kinetic art was conditioned more by Dadaism's irrationalist and spontaneist spirit than by the more rational, functional machine aesthetics of Constructivism.
