Social skills are necessary behaviors preschool children must learn in order to interact appropriately with others in a variety of social situations. Social skills deficits are related to later academic and social difficulties. The early identification of internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors in preschool children is important in order to provide intervention services. The current study examined the concurrent validity of the five ESP subscales and the two CBCL Broad Syndrome Scales. A total of ten correlations were conducted to evaluate the relationship between the two measures. The results of this study found a significant relationship between the ESP Adaptive Behavior subscale and the CBCL Externalizing subscale as well as between the ESP Maladaptive Behavior subscale and the CBCL Externalizing subscale.
