What are the components of the Capital Equipment Management System and how can they work together to be more efficient and effective?

Capital equipment is an essential resource in the provision of health care. This study examines the Capital Equipment Management System (CEMS) in Fraser Health. Delays in the CEMS can delay the delivery of care and result in a permanent loss of funding. Fraser Health is a large organization that provides health cares services to 1.4 million people through 12 acute care hospitals and community services. A comprehensive literature review on government organizations, knowledge management, systems thinking, and leading change was completed. Data collection tools included an on-line survey and two focus groups. The goal of the data collection was to understand the CEMS from the perspective of the customer and the stakeholder and to identify opportunities for improvement. This study has shown there are gaps in communication, process, how need is identified, understanding funding restrictions, and customer support.
