The development of Wenzhou industry clusters: Its quality improvement and innovation capability (China).

摘要

Considering the large number of academic articles about the Third Italy and industry clusters around the world, China, as the largest developing country with many industry clusters, should be studied to complete the research in this field. My thesis is focus on industry clusters in a region in China---Wenzhou, which established a successful private economy without substantial support from the state government. Besides the geographic and historical reasons, the development trajectory of this region reveals that Wenzhou region reached notable economic achievements for its special cultural background and the support of local policies. Innovation is a critical fact to achieve sustainable competitive advantages in a cluster. Wenzhou quality improvement in the late 1980s and early 1990s is an important issue, which indicates the innovation capability in this region. My thesis also investigates the organizational, industrial and institutional conditions of this region to understand if it can keep the competitive advantages for a long time.
