Patient Activations Measures and Patient Perceptions of In-Home Telehealth Monitoring for Stroke Risk Factor Management: Development of a Survey Tool.

The purpose of this project was to develop a survey tool that would assess the impact of in-home telehealth monitoring for stroke risk factor management through an in-depth review of research and literature on patient activation measures, patient perceptions and telehealth. Parts of the survey utilize validated tools in patient activation measures (PAM) and patient perceptions of telehealth (TMPQ), while the Principal Investigator developed additional questions, both closed and open-ended, for a complete assessment of patient perceptions. Five expert reviewers gave feedback on the format and usefulness of the survey. Validity of the PI-created closed and open-ended questions were piloted using n=26, achieving Cronbach's Alpha of .901 for the closed-ended questions. The small n=26 allows for only descriptive analysis of the qualitative responses. This survey tool may help to provide better understanding of the impact of in-home telehealth on the aging population and could be utilized outside of stroke studies.
