The critical factors affecting the adoption of an Internet-based inter-organizational information system: An empirical study of the real estate industry in Florida.
Inter-organizational information systems (IOS) have been developed and implemented due primarily to rapid advances in information technology (IT), the introduction of the internet, advances in telecommunication and the declining costs in computer hardware and software. The subsequent explosion of the internet, the widespread availability and commodization of high speed bandwidth, the increases in security and the changes in the economics of information has led to the development and deployment of many internet-based inter-organizational information systems (IBIOS).; This empirical study investigates the key factors for the successful implementation and adoption of an internet-based IOS (IBIOS) in the real estate industry in Florida. The 59 dependent variables were reduced to 15 dependent factors (Table 15). The 124 independent variables were reduced to 30 factors (Table 16). The main hypotheses tested were for relative advantage, compatibility, ease-of-use, observability, image, standard format, user training, intermediary support, management support, cost, expectations of business success, and personal characteristics.; Factors that were found to be important for IBIOS success included: Organizational Image, Management Support, Level of Technology, Reliability of Internet, Performance Expectations, Expectation of Quality, Gender, Company Success Factors, Number of People in Office, Importance of Standard Format, Cost, Critical Business Success Factors, Expectation of Training, Importance of Direct Entry, Title, Compatibility, Ease of Use - Standard Format, Basic Training, Top Management Support, Effectiveness of User Training, Years Started, Importance of Use - MLS, Importance of Prospecting Functions, Relative Advantage, Advance Training, Importance of Internet Browser, Expectation of Conversion Success, Ease of Use - Software, Observability, and Intermediary IBIOS Support.
