摘要

Porcelain-titanium bonding depends on the oxide layer between porcelain and titanium. A previous study showed that firing porcelain on titanium in reduced Argon atmosphere significantly improves the bonding.; This study evaluated the effect of three variables: (1) mechanically removing the surface layer, (2) Argon reduced atmospheres during firing, (3) combination of both.; Eight groups of CP titanium specimens were prepared. 40 specimens were prepared without modifications while 40 specimens were modified by mechanically removing 200mum thickness from the surface. A conventional Au-Pd-In metal-ceramic alloy was used for the control group. Porcelain firing was conducted in vacuum and in reduced Argon atmospheres at various pressures.; Results showed that bur modification did not improve titanium-ceramic bonding when porcelain is fired in reduced Argon atmospheres but bur modification did significantly improve the bonding when porcelain is fired in vacuum.
