Scare Quotes and their Evaluative Functions in Journalistic Genre

转述或者投射(功能语法中使用)在不同交际活动中普通存在并且起着重要作用，这一现象已受到语言学不同领域的学者的关注，他们从不同的视角对这话题进行了研究。Martin和Rose把投射的方式分为4种，即小句投射(projecting clauses)、语用间接投射(names for‘speech acts’)、句内投射(projecting within clauses)和部分投射(scare quotes)。 本论文就Martin 和Rose分类中的最后一类进行探讨。论文首先解释了部分投射的内涵，对部分投射和非部分投射进行了区分。然后Martin等学者的评价功能理论为依据，用实例对部分投射在新闻语类中的评价功能进行了分析探讨。为了考察部分投射在新闻语类中评价功能，论文还以两份美国的报纸和一份杂志中的部分投射作为语料对新闻语类中部分投射的实际使用进行了调查。论文最后还探讨了如何通过语境(情景语境、互文性和文化语境)来解读评价功能。 研究发现新闻语类中部分投射的评价功能非常丰富。它们不但能表达报道的客观性(新闻语类中大多数部分投射起此功能)，还能表达诸如支持、反对、不确定和怀疑等态度意义。作者在新闻语类中运用部分投射的目的常常是为了明确责任和推卸责任，使新闻更具客观性。研究还表明对部分投射评价功能的解读需要三种不同的语境知识，即情景语境、互文性和文化语境知识。
