文化翻译观视域下杨译《儒林外史》中文化负载词英译研究

摘要

随着现代语言学和翻译理论的逐步发展,许多学者开始关注翻译过程中的文化因素及其影响,他们表示翻译不仅是一种语言转换活动，更是文化的转换和交流。在持文化翻译观的众多学者中，最具代表性的人物是苏珊·巴斯奈特。她认为翻译是文化内部与文化之间的交流。翻译应当实现原文与译文之间文化功能的对等。该文化翻译观的提出,标志着翻译研究迈向了新的台阶,对翻译实践具有重要的理论指导意义和影响。
　　《儒林外史》代表着中国古代讽刺文学的高峰。此部小说首次以文人的视角为出发点，描绘了封建科举时代下中国传统伦理道德、风俗及日常生活。小说中丰富的文化因素尤体现在含量最高的文化词语里。因此，文化词语的准确翻译成为再现封建思想文化的重要途径。本文以杨宪益、戴乃迭夫妇翻译的《儒林外史》英译本中的文化负载词为研究对象，以苏珊·巴斯奈特的文化翻译为理论指导，探讨文化负载词的翻译策略。
　　本文分为六章。第一章为引言，总体介绍全文。第二章为文献综述，回顾了文化翻译理论及《儒林外史》英译的研究历史和现状。第三章介绍了本文的理论基础—苏珊·巴斯奈特的文化翻译理论，包括对重要理论观点及理论的意义和影响进行了重点概述。第四章对本文的研究对象——文化负载词的定义、分类及该类词在翻译中的重要性进行了介绍。第五章为本论文的研究重点。作者从巴斯奈特的文化翻译理论视角出发，对杨宪益夫妇翻译的《儒林外史》英译本中文化负载词的翻译策略进行了案例分析。作者先根据奈达对文化的分类将文化负载词分为五类，再依照译者在翻译中所采用的方法进行归类，然后结合理论分析各类文化负载词的翻译策略取向及其效果。第六章则是本文的结论部分，归纳了研究的主要发现及不足之处。
　　本文将理论联系实际，通过对小说中的具体实例进行详细分析，得出的最后结论是：杨宪益、戴乃迭夫妇对于各类文化负载词采用了不同的翻译策略，而绝大多数的翻译策略运用得当，成功使得译文与原文在文化功能上达到对等。由此可见，文化翻译理论有助于译者从一个新的视角看待翻译问题，实现了该理论指导下的文化负载词汇翻译的可能性和操作性进而有效地将中国文化传播至外国读者。
