The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of a 2-year educational program in team work among workers in a food factory. with special emphasis on the effects of age. In all 339 subjects were divided into an intervention group participating in the training program (n=140) and a control group (n=199) that did not participate in the training. Data on attitudes and work ability were gathered with a questionnaire before and after the training program. The results revealed changes in growth motivation and professional competence among the group participating in the program, although the change was statistically not significant. No changes in work ability were seen. The changes in professional competence were independent of age. The changes in team spirit were bigger among the elderly, while the changes in growth motivation were smaller. The results suggest, that the 2-year educational program had positive influence on growth motivation and professional competence, while the effect in team spirit and work ability could not be verified.
