A Fuzzy-Based Decision Support System for Construction Contractors Evaluation and Selection

This paper proposes a DSS framework that incorporates the concept of fuzzy logic to aid construction owners in their evaluation and selection of contractors. By deploying fuzzy logic, the proposed framework provides decision makers a more comprehensive avenue for modeling conditions which are inherently imprecisely defined but crucial to the decision making process. The DSS framework also includes a linear programming model, which is designed to complement the subjective assessment of the fuzzy-logic based model by capturing the objective factors, such as costs, budget and time, thus facilitates a well balanced decision making process.
