Internal Social Capital and Firm Performance: is Knowledge Integration a Missing Link?

Many companies have fostered internal social capital in order to enhance firm performance and build competitive advantages. This study combines social capital theory and knowledge-based perspectives to develop a general model of enhancing firm performance. Using structural equations modeling with data collected from managers in 208 Chinese firms, the result show that knowledge integration plays a perfect mediating role between internal social capital and firm performance. The results suggest that significant benefits can be achieved for the firm performance by fostering internal social capital and promoting knowledge integration.
