The importance of rural transport in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)was highlighted to justify the need for developing countries to have a Rural TransportStrategy, which aims is to ensure better management of maintenance and construction ofrural transport infrastructure (RTI).This importance to have in place a good transport strategy explains today'scomprehensive approach through which rural mobility issues are addressed. Indeed theyare addressed through the concept of 'Rural Transport' which combines the offer to realtransport demand and takes into account: transport’ infrastructures, facilities and services,as well as planning the location of socio - collectives equipment.Based on this concept, some countries such as Benin have already put in place theirNational Strategy for Rural Transport (SNTR). Focusing on a critical analyze of thisstrategy, its’ strengths and weaknesses were exploited for outlining keys points of a goodstrategy that will be shared with the participants in this XXV Congress..
