Metal hydrides can be utilized for a variety of applications such as hydrogen storage, thermal energystorage, rechargeable battery electrodes, and also for a various thermally driven sorption machines. In thispaper, an overview of metal hydride technology is made with special emphasis on thermodynamic machines.Materials characteristics relevant to efficient operation of devices, operating principles and performance ofvarious designs of metal hydride machines are discussed.
