ENERGY MANAGER PROGRAM AT BC HYDRO

The Energy Manager Program at the British ColumbiarnHydro and Power Authority (BCH) is designed torndedicate resources that identify and implement energyrnefficiency projects. The program provides funding to findrnenergy savings on customer sites. The Energy Managerrn(EM) resource was lacking in previous energyrnconservation programs and was a key barrier to customerrnacceptance. The EM program is part of a revivedrnDemand Side Management (DSM) effort to encouragerncustomers to reduce electricity use. The DSM initiative isrnneeded at this time to defer the capital cost of newrnelectricity generating capacity because in 7 years BCHrnwill have reached it generating capacity. The targetrnmarket was originally institutional customers and hasrnexpanded to include industrial, manufacturing andrnproperty management sectors. To date 40 EM’s havernassisted in identifying over 53,000 MW.h. Future plansrninclude rolling out the program to smaller customers withrn“Lite” version that will allow for modified deliverablesrnwith shorter work terms.
