With the rapid expansion of the use of the world widernweb and internet features, it is only natural that thernallure of remote data monitoring and control forrnmultiple locations using vast quantities of data hasrnevolved and can be implemented as part of arncomprehensive energy management strategy by facilityrnowners with multiple sites. New software techniquesrnand display systems are discussed for EMCS andrnindustrial SCADA units, and advanced meter readingrnequipment for utility billing. In the past energyrnmanagers had to be content with monthly energyrnbilling data as the sole basis for determining energyrnoptimization strategies. Now with the advent of webrnenabled real time solutions, facility energy managersrnwill be able to modify the energy optimizationrnstrategies to respond to supply side cost reductionrnopportunities as well as their normal demand sidernmanagement features. Impacts of AMR for utilityrncharges, and the technology available today arernpresented, along with case studies. From this work,rnthe potential value for monitoring for greenhouse gasrnemissions, and potential technology trends arernprojected.
