The paper will cover three aspects of sheet titanium Forming. The first section will illustrate and address the innovative tooling concepts and manufacturing methods that are currently employed in the process of Superplastically Forming complex Titanium sheet metal shapes and contours on a repeatable basis at acceptable costs. This section will also include an in depth picture of the range of Aerospace products currently made by the Superplastic Forming process (SPF). The second section will further explore and illustrate the application of the SPF process principles to the manufacture of products designed to be produced from none SPF alloys such as Beta21S. The third section will demonstrate where the use of 'Fine Grain' Ti 6Al 4V alloys such as the SP700 sheet Titanium alloy could reduce energy, environmental and manufacturing costs.
