The Substation Engineering Maintenance Intranet System

Internet Technology is changing the way the world shares information. This technology utilized in Corporate Intranets and Extranets is also having a profound effect on how utilities share information throughout the corporation. This paper provides a project review of systems that are implementing Internet based technologies within their substations to make substation data securely accessible to computer systems and desktops throughout the corporation. Utilizing today's latest web technologies and unparalleled availability of high speed and wireless data network this system allows to make the substation a secure part of the corporate network. The purpose of this system is not to replace traditional utility systems such as SCADA or protection and control systems, but rather implement a solutions that extended the corporate network to the substation to assist utility personnel in performing real-time substation engineering and maintenance activities. This paper reviews the key objectives of this system, highlights key project design decisions and provides an overview of system functionality.
