Life’s a Bleach: Using On-site Generation of Sodium Hypochlorite for Drinking Water Disinfection at a Small Utility

Recent developments in on-site sodium hypochlorite generation (OSHG) have opened thismethod of disinfection to much smaller utility operations than has ever been practical before.This safe, cost-effective and reliable method of disinfection can also provide some distinctadvantages when used in areas of high population concentrations. Even as the use of chlorinegas remains the default method of disinfection because of its low start-up and operating costs,smart utility operators should consider alternative methods as they plan new treatmentapplications or the upgrade of existing plants.
