UPGRADING EXISTING SECONDARY CLARIFIERS TO ENHANCE PROCESS CONTROLLABILITY TO SUPPORT NITRIFICATION

This paper presents the results and benefits of optimizing an existing conventionalrnactivated sludge wastewater treatment facility to meet nutrient and toxicity reductionrnobjectives and to increase plant hydraulic capacity. Additionally, the paper describesrnhow the facility optimization efforts were used to facilitate the development of enhancedrnoperator skills. Improved performance to achieve more stringent effluent criteria wasrnaccomplished. An approach for optimizing other treatment facilities in the Region wasrnalso established.
