In 1996 North West Water (NWW), the major supplier of water and wastewaterservices in the North West of England, completed an $800 million investmentprogramme with the aim of improving bathing water quality on the North West coast.When the bathing water compliance with regulatory standards did not improve, NWWinitiated a programme of surveys, asset monitoring and environmental data collectionto assist the government water quality regulator (Environment Agency) to understandthe problem and develop future investment programmes. The paper summarises thereasons and methods for the data collection, the data analysis approaches that havebeen adopted and the use to which some of this data analysis has been put.
