摘要

This paper is intended as a user-friendly approach to torsional analysis. Basic methods are reviewed including how to calculate the stiffness and inertia of machine parts. Simple 2-mass and 3-mass systems are illustrated as well as complex systems that must be computer modeled. Transient forced response of torsional systems is investigated including diesel engine excitation, a reciprocating compressor example, synchronous motor startup and short circuit evaluation. Methods of fatigue analysis are discussed with projected life analysis. Torsional analysis problems can become extremely complicated and theoretical modeling often must be corroborated by actual field measurements. This way system modifications can be made with greater certainty of success and machinery may be designed to operate safely.
