Casting of composite concrete-filled steel tube beams with self-consolidating concrete

This paper reports tests that have been conducted as part of a research project that aims torninvestigate the flexural behavior of real-scaled rectangular concrete-filled steel tube (CSFT) beams. Concretefillingrntests were carried out on two beam specimens of 12-m in length which were horizontally cast withrnself-consolidating concrete under two different conditions: with and without pressure. Ultrasonic inspectionrntests were also conducted to evaluate the efficacy of such non-destructive technique in detecting imperfectionsrnon the surface of concrete core due to casting. Finally, a total of six short column specimens were split into threerngroups to investigate an effective surface treatment to minimize the bond resistance between steel and concrete:rnoil, grease and mold release wax-based agent.
