With proper validation it is today possible to derivernreference values with small uncertainties for most of thernsystems studied. It seems likely that the uncertainty forrneach reference value can be made smaller than thernuncertainties of most experimental benchmarks. Thernreference values become benchmarks.rnOne of the purposes of the expert group study was tornidentify discrepancies in handbooks and other publishedrnvalues and to explain them. Several large discrepanciesrnhave been identified and explained during the study.rnA continued study would be expected to lead to arnconsensus on many reference values, with lowrnuncertainties. Such a study would fit very well within therncurrent OECD/NEA efforts related to data improvement,rnbenchmark compilations, methods comparison, etc.
