A cellular automaton is used to simulate the dendritic growth controlled by solutal and curvature effects. The model does not explicitly track the interface velocity by the flux equations; the interface motion results from the combined effect of maintaining equilibrium composition, solute rejection, and diffusion of solute at the interface. There is a grid dependent orientation introduced into the prediction of dendritic growth, favoring growth at angles 0° or 45°from the grid axis. This paper examines these factors which contribute to this phenomenon and suggests methods to reduce it.
