The Aluminium Pechiney AP35 technology is presently the spearhead of the ALCAN technological offer. To maintain its technological leadership, Alcan has continued to optimize the AP35 and now is proposing to its clients an AP36 at 360 kA. At the same time, the intensive technology development program aiming at continuing the amperage increase while improving the energy performance is going on and should give rise to the next AP3X HALE generation in the coming months. This article describes the operational tests allowing bringing the AP35 at a 360 kA level. This AP36 technology is technically benchmarked against the well-proven AP35. Its shows great economical benefits resulting from investment and operation cost reduction for future smelters.
