EFFECTS OF ALUMINUM ADDITION ON MAGNESIUM-LITHIUM-ZINC ALLOY

In this study, the effects of Al addition on the Mg-9Li-1Zn alloy are investigated, including crystal structures, mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performance. Experimental results show that both Mg-9Li-1Zn and Mg-9Li-1Zn-0.6Al alloys exhibit the two-phase microstructures of α (HCP) and β (BCC) phases. The Mg-9Li-1Zn and Mg-9Li-1Zn-0.6Al alloys, no matter the extruded or cold-rolled specimens, have an yield strength of 95.78-185.53MPa, but their elongation can reach 25.69-63.68%, which are much better than those of AZ91 and AZ61 Mg alloys. Adding 0.6 % Aluminum to Mg-9Li-1Zn alloy can obviously increase the mechanical strength and corrosion resistance, and maintain the excellent properties of elongation and EMI shielding performance. The tensile strength and fracture strain of Mg-9Li-1Zn and Mg-9Li-1Zn-0.6Al alloys are found to exhibit a linear variation with the strain rate by a log scale. The impact values of Mg-9Li-1Zn-0.6Al alloy are lower than those of Mg-9Li-1Zn alloy, especially at temperatures below 150□.
