HIGH-TEMPERATURE PLUG FORMATION WITH SILICATES

A grouting system is being developed that isrnapplicable to water shutoff, steam flooding, and hightemperaturerngrouting/plugging for lost circulation.rnThis grouting system uses silicate hydrates as thernplugging material. We describe a means to introducernsodium silicate and an activator through a singlerntubular by encapsulating the activator in a materialrnthat is temperature sensitive, thus delaying therninitiation of the reaction. The formation of silicaternhydrate plugs has been studied over the range of 80℃rnto 300℃ as well as the chemical stability of silicaternhydrate for 10-12 weeks.
