Factors of Language Popularity——What Chinese Language Should Learn from English Language to Become More Popular in the World

Chinese language is the pride of our Chinese people. To make it more popular is not only a natural impulse of every Chinese, but also the embodiment and need of China to become a strong country. Nowa days, English has become a global language. So by analyzing what factors make it become the most popu lar language in the world, we may know what Chinese language can learn from it. In this article the factors are analyzed in the view of historical, economic and scientific ,political and cultural aspects. English has a long history of spreading. Colonization and immi grants took a very important part in this process. Chi nese language should also make good use of Chinese population and immigrants. Most English speaking countries are developed countries. The requirements of trade, study and research make many foreigners study English. Therefore, the development and scientific in novation of China is also a necessary basis of the popularity of Chinese language. Moreover, the policy of English speaking countries is also in favor of the spreading of their language. The Chinese government has paid more attention to the spreading of Chinese, but more efforts are needed for its popularity around the world. Popular cultural products attract many people to study English. How to combine Chinese cul tural products with Chinese spreading is an important question for Chinese language. Chinese has the poten tial to become more popular, but there are still many problems to be solved. I think that a good article which raises some very important issues. It would be a great pity if English were to become " merely an in strument" .
