A Modified Backtanning Method for Acid Dyes on Nylon 6,6

The traditional fullbacktan (tannic acid-tartar emetic) aftertreatment of dyed nylon thatrnimproves washfastness, no longer enjoys widespread use due to a variety of reasonsrnincluding toxicity of tartar emetic. An alternative, modified fullbacktan aftertreatment,rnhas been devised in which the tartar emetic has been replaced. It will be shown that thernmodified fullbacktan process imparts a level of wetfastness to acid dyes (premetallizedrnand also non-metallized) that is considerably higher than that achieved using traditionalrnaftertreatments.
