In this paper, a comparison of different methods on how to identify the mercerized wool fibers rnfrom other wool fibers was presented. Based on these discussions, scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) rnwas used to investigate the surface morphology of the mercerized wool fibers, the shrink-resistant wool rnfibers, the fined wool fibers and ordinary scoured wool fibers. In these hundreds of SEM rnphotomicrographs, obvious and typical differences among these wool fibers were emerged. Therefore, this rnSEM method was proved reliable to identify the mercerized wool fibers from the other wool fibers.
