This paper reports the influence of woven fabric construction on open porosity. A different predictive models based on the constructional parameters of woven structure's has been developed to predict the open porosity of cotton woven fabrics. Following constructional parameters were involved in this research-yarn linear density, type of weave, fabric tightness and denting. Predictive models, determined by a three-factor analysis, genetic programming and first principles, are derived and compared with experimental values based on the optical method. The comparable analysis shows that nondeterministic modelling tool e. g. genetic programming gives the very good agreement between the experimental and predictive values of open porosity. The proposed models provide guidelines for engineering woven cotton fabrics to fit desired open porosity.
