The technique of stepwise regression analysis identified two mechanical blocks (from a total of six) which are needed to explain 99% of total hand value for winter suiting fabrics in terms of fabric smoothness/sleekness and fullness/softness. These two fabric mechanical blocks are surface and compression properties. For summer suit fabrics, three mechanical blocks are sufficient to explain the primary hand values of crispness, hardness and fullness/softness. These three fabric mechanical blocks are surface properties, tensile properties and bending properties.
