Abandonment of Tailings Deposit Casapalca

The Tailing Deposit Casapalca is in the right of the Rimac River in Lima, Peru. It has 960,000 tons of tailings in 7.7 square hectometers. Physical stabilization design was: Reduce inclination of the banks by cut and conformation of embankments, and to reconstruct contention walls in the right riverbank of the Rimac. For handling of waters we constructed coronation and evacuation gutters. For chemical stabilization, the design contemplated the superficial cut of the rusty scab, its later neutralization, and the placement of the technical covering. This consists of an alkaline barrier, on which germicide was applied, of a layer of grievous clay and finally of a layer of organic earth, on which the vegetable covering was made. Abandonment was made in five months. It cost around 1 '820,000 US dollars without administration costs.
