The surface chemical reactions at the origin of the CO detection by SnO_2-based sensors are investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry for two different SnO_2 particle sizes. Knowing that the variations of the infrared energy transmitted by the sample versus surrounding gases are related to the variations of the electrical conductivity, correlation of surface chemical reactions with the sensor response is established and discussed.
