The objective of this study is to assess the effect of thermal exposure on the tensile properties of the 2297 plates of 5.40 cm (2.125″) thickness. The matrix studied included exposure times from 1 hour up to 200 hours and temperatures from 177℃ (350℉) through 260℃ (500℉). Samples were machined in the quarter (t/4) and half (t/2) thickness. The strength and crystallographic texture components were higher in the half thickness (t/2) samples. All samples experienced a slight age hardening (or plateau) in the initial thermal exposure and as time went on, the material began to experience overaging.
