Two rare earth organic complexes [Eu(TTA)_2(AA)phen and Sm(TTA)_2(AA)phen] with high fluorescent intensity were synthesized by reaction of Europium chloride, or Samarium chloride with TTA, AA and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen). The RE(TTA)_2(AA)phen/NBR composites were prepared by in-situ reaction of the rare earth complexes with NBR. It was found that the rare earth organic complexes were homogenously dispersed into the NBR matrix and the in-situ reaction was confirmed by SEM, TEM, XRD and Fluorescent Spectra. After in-situ reaction of RE(TTA)_2(AA)phen in NBR, the dispersion particles of RE(TTA)_2(AA)phen evidently reduced, many nano-sized particles emerged. The crystalline of RE(TTA)_2(AA)phen disappeared. The fluorescent intensity of cured composites is two times higher than that of uncured ones. On the other hand, there is no fluorescence quenching up to 16.7% (mass based) of complex concentration, instead, a higher fluorescent intensity was still maintained. Therefore, we found a good way to prepare the composites with high rare earth organic complex concentration, complete dispersion and high fluorescent intensity by this in-situ reaction method.
