Cap thickness and necrotic core thickness are the main geometrical features influencing the cap stresses. Moreover, intima layer thickness, adventitia layer thickness, and necrotic core angle are other geometrical determinants of the cap stresses. Local degradation in media layer does not influence cap stresses.rnThe effects of the intima thickness, the adventitia thickness, and the necrotic core angle on the cap stresses depend strongly on the intima stiffness since it determines the contribution of each plaque component to the load carrying task. This emphasizes the importance of knowing the exact stiffness of the intima. Further experimental studies are needed to reveal the intima material characteristics.
