摘要

The methodology presented here provides a systematic framework for generating an accurate model of the LV with mitral valve. The model presented in this study was able to capture the presence of MR, which was seen as a gap between the leaflets, and to show the effect of borderzone contractility on ischemic MR. Future models will be expanded to incorporate the effect of blood flow, with fluid-structure interaction. This will generate a more accurate profile of the loading applied on the endocardium and mitral valve. Ultimately, the goal is to use the model to determine the optimal surgical repair of ischemic MR, such as annuloplasty. We believe that as this model improves, it will be a powerful tool for planning future clinical and animal trials, thus reducing the need for excessive and time consuming studies.
