The utility of PIV in measuring wall shear rates within a Penn State 50cc device is improved at higher magnifications. A comprehensive flow study within the VAD will identify areas susceptible to thrombus formation in order to advance the design of the device. As we continue to improve our resolution, the comparison between in vivo, in vitro, and computational data will strengthen the link and prediction of thrombus formation in our 50cc Penn State VAD.
