The era of change demands corrective steps at an accelerated pace. Improving the recovery of sugar by reducing the non-cane material and increasing The purity of the juice will be an viable option for a longer crushing period. To improve the purity an investigation was carried out to assess the non-cane materials supplied alongwith the green cane daily at cane yard. Random cane samples were collected from the vehicles at the unloading point and analyzed for the non-cane materials like tops, dry trash, dried cane, suckers and binding material. This study showed that reducing the percentage of non-cane materials to the target level of 3% from an estimated 6.62% has improved the recovery and substantial savings made on cane cost and sugar.
