Clarification efficiency depends mainly upon the quantity of potassy of potassium ion removed during treatment of juice. Potassium contribute about 60% of total ash present in juice and more mellasegenic than divalent ion Ca~(++) Momovalent ions retains about 4.4 parts of sugar whereas divalent ion retains 2.2 parts with it in crystalisation. Thus final molasses sent out from the process is directly related to the potassium ion (ash) in syrup. So removal of K~+ before syrup is subjected to the determination of Cond. Ash. K~+ removal is happened during the adsorption on the charged surface of CaSO_3 ppt surrounded by hydroxyl ions. To determine the impurities in soluble state like inorganic ash (Na, K, Ca) that required for the process control only conductivity ash provides quick control and indicates the sugar loss occurring at stages as well as scale deposited in evaporator. So in normal operating condition Cond. ash from raw juice to clear juice should not increase and should be downward from C.J. to syrup. The downward trend indicates the quantity of ash left in evaporator which can be evaluated.
