SOME STUDIES ON MANAGEMENT OF BIOCOMPOST PLANT and CONTROL OF BIOCOMPOST QUALITY, COST AND ITS MARKETING

The biocomposting of distillery spentwash with sugar mill pressmud has been widely adopted by the sugar industry as a step to curb the pollution menace in a profitable way. They have faced some difficulties in the smooth operation of the biocompost plant as also in maintaining the quality of the biocompost, in addition to the problem of keeping its cost competitive & remunerative. As a number of sugar factories have thrown their product into the market, the farmer customer has to be enticed in a pre-planned way for awarding his preference to the product of a particular brand. Certain suggestions have been extended to takle these practical aspects for this new emerging business-cum-environment protection venture of the sugar industry, based on the personal experience of the lead author in this field. It is hoped that these will be beneficial to the sugar industry and to the interest of cane/other farmers, alike.
