Report 2: Institutional, organisational and research aspects: Asset management system, the corner stone of managing an asset rich industry

The majority of the papers in this section make reference to Strategic Asset Management as being a fundamental element of the institutional arrangements of water/ wastewater institutions. This summary focuses on Asset Management Systems as the corner stone of managing any asset rich industry. It compares the establishment of an asset management system with environment, quality and safety and explores the overlaps and synergies. The paper also contrasts the value of auditing versus benchmarking and encourages all asset rich industries to learn and leverage off the sister systems (environment, quality and safety) and develop a system that meets the requirements of the political, social, regulatory and economic climate of the environment in which it is based.
