Recent research highlights the importance of corporate socialrnresponsibility (CSR) in gaining and sustainingrncompetitiveness. However, for years, CSR and businessrnstrategies have been treated as separate and distinct activitiesrnoil and gas companies. With the growing recognition of therncomplexity of firm competitiveness, some oil and gasrncompanies have attempted to integrate their CSR and businessrnstrategies into a comprehensive framework that defines theirrncompetitive priorities and posture. This article proposes arnmodel that makes this integration possible and profitable. Thernmodel focuses on anchoring the firm’s core competencies tornits CSR activities, thereby leading to the development ofrninnovative products, processes, systems and strategies thatrnenhance an oil and gas company's competitiveness. The articlerndiscusses the components of this model and their implicationsrnfor improved competitiveness.
