The Frigg Field, is an offshore oil and gas productionrncomplex in the North Sea, lying on the boundary betweenrnNorway and the UK. Since the start-up of the field in 1977,rnthe operator of the field, Elf Norge has believed in workforcerninvolvement and has actively facilitated this process. Overrnthe years, Elf has provided for full-time salaried employeernrepresentatives to deal with union and safety, health andrnwelfare matters, which has enabled the operator to keep anrnopen dialogue with it’s employees.rnIt is important to mention, that on only a very, very fewrnoccasions, over more than twenty years of operation, the dailyrnnomination of gas production for the customer, has not beenrnmet.rnFrom the start of the decline of the Frigg Field in the laterneighties, workforce involvement was seen as an importantrnissue when it came to achieving the best results for the future,rnfor both the operator and for the employees involved. Reorganizationrnand down-manning projects have actively usedrnworkforce representatives as a valuable resource to producernthe best solutions.rnThis paper will attempt to show how the active involvementrnof the workforce during the life of an offshore installation hasrnbenefited both the operator and the employees in areas suchrnas safety related matters, flexibility of operations andrnpersonnel and cost reduction
