摘要

Three implementation techniques for main memory database systemsnare described and compared, namely, the compilation, vectorization, andnadaptive methods. The adaptive method can be combined with the standard,ncompilation, and vectorization methods. Experiments show that, withnstandard optimization techniques like vectorization and compilation, anperformance increase of a factor of five can be obtained. The adaptivenmethod turned out to be favorable only in combination with thenvectorization and compilation approach. Experience with applying thesentechniques indicates that the performance increase is well worth thenadded implementation effort for both the compilation and vectorizationnapproach
