TØJHUSHAVEN - EXEMPLAR AND AMBITIOUS ENERGY CONSCIOUS COST-EFFECTIVE URBAN RENEWAL

The project focuses on old buildings in dense city centres for which normal building renovation will not be cost-effective. Instead, the buildings have been demolished and four new in-fill buildings (34 apartments) have been constructed. Key goals of the project were: Substantial energy savings, Healthy indoor climate, Implementation of innovative building integrated solar energy components, Use of environmentally friendly building materials, Exchange of know-how about energy conscious urban renewal throughout Europe, and Demonstration and documentation of cost-effective and sustainable urban renewal with minimised maintenance costs. Comprehensive monitoring has been carried out documenting a total annual energy demand for space heating and ventilation of between 36 and 55 kWh/m², which is considerably lower than for standard new build in DK. Besides, also significant savings for electricity and for cold and hot water have been achieved. Thus, it can be concluded that, the project has been very successful as it has also met the budget and has been carried out on time.
